- What is it? This photograph includes a young solider as the focal point with other soldiers behind.
Analysis
- Line- The lines of the cement are leading your eye to the back of the photo.
- Shape- The solider creates an organic shape.
- Texture- The soldiers gear has detailed textures in it.
- Space- The solider is in the foreground, while the other soldiers are in the background.
- Value- The values are strong in the photo because of the high contrast black and white.
- Unity- There is unity in the strong blacks and strong whites.
- Balance- There is a balance even though the solider doesn't follow the rule of thirds and is placed in the middle of the photo.

- How do you feel when you look at the piece? I feel empowered to do anything I want to do, if a young kid can fight in a war I can do anything.
- What viewer response does the piece evoke? It makes the viewer feel for the child at war and the family of this child.
- What is the mood of the work? Dark.
- Does the work tell a story? The work tells the story war and hardships.
- What do you think was the artist’s purpose for creating the piece? I believe they took this photo to emphasize the fact that young kids were being taken from there families and being sent to the war when it wasn't an absolute necessity.
Judgement
- Do you like or dislike the piece? Why? I like this photo because of the soldiers sort of just being there not really caring terribly much.
- How does the work fit into the historical time period in which it was created? This fits the time period because of the fight against the war in Vietnam because children were being sent to war.
- Does the title make sense to the artwork? How does the title relate? The title makes sense because it is what is in the photo.
